Announcements 12-8-17

Hey Warriors! There’s a big basketball game here at the River tonight as our boys will host the State’s 2nd ranked team, the Western Branch Bruins! Please come out and support our Warriors. JV game is 5:45; Varsity game is 7:30 pm. River Rowdies: it’s been rumored that the Bruin Crazies will show up in mass tonight. . . Can’t let them out cheer us!

The Men of Distinction Club will be meeting on Monday, December 11 at 3:00 pm in Mr. Baugh’s room, room 206.

Congratulations to the NRHS Swim Team for their dominating victory over Indian River last night. The Warriors had zero disqualifications. The Boys’ score was 123-47; the Girls’ score was 127-35. Come out tomorrow and support your Swim team at the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club as they swim against Oscar Smith at 2:00 pm.

Attention National Honor Society members: Today is Candy Cane Friday! If you brought in candy canes, please stop by Mrs. Murray’s room during or before your lunch to pick up your canes to distribute. Be kind and joyful!

National Honor Society members: NHS will hold its holiday social on Monday, December 11. Please bring a candy or snack to share. We will be having a Chinese gift exchange with presents under $5.00. See Mrs. Murray for details.

The Science Club will have their Christmas party on December 12 at 3:10 pm in room 219. Please bring your favorite snack to share (no cinnamon or nuts.) New members are welcome. Make sure you have your own transportation home.

The Prom Committee will meet next Thursday, December 14 after school in room 228.

Norfolk State will be having on-site admissions on Friday, December 8. Seniors are welcome to sign up in the Guidance office to speak with an advisor. All application fees will be waived, and any senior with a 3.0 or above average will be automatically admitted. They will also be providing potential scholarship opportunities.

Please visit out Angel Tree located in the Main Office. Pick an Angel and follow the instructions on the back. All unwrapped gifts are due back by Friday, December 15, 2017. FBLA thanks you for your support!

The Fine Arts Department presents A Winter Holiday Concert series with the Nansemond River HS and John Yeates Middle School Orchestras on Thursday, December 14 at 7:00 pm. On Monday, December 18 at 6:00 pm, the Nansemond River Chorus, Concert Band and Jazz Band.  All concerts are free and open to the public.

Students: If you are interested in the 2018 Summer Residential Academies, don’t forget to sign up online. The deadline is deadline is December 14, 2017.

ASVAB Testing Jan. 3 & Jan. 4, 2018

The ASVAB test will be given to NRHS seniors on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 and to NRHS juniors on Thursday, January 4, 2018. NRHS students who want to test must sign up at https://goo.gl/Dnjk5L.

The test is approximately three hours long.  If a student signs up to take the test, he/she will be expected to complete all parts of the test. Testing will begin at 8:40 a.m. and will end at approximately 11:44 a.m.

The deadline to sign up is Monday, December 18, 2017.
