Dia won the 5A South regional championship in the 285 class. He is the runner-up for the 5A state champion in the 285 class.

Announcements 2-20-17

There will be a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting on Tuesday, February 21 right after school in room 206. Refreshments will be served. You do not have to be on a sports team to attend.

Boys’ Basketball players are reminded to turn in practice uniforms and locks to Coach Young.

We are seeing an increase in illegal parking on campus. If you have NOT bought a parking space (and there are none left), you can’t park on campus. We have requested that a tow truck be on campus this week. It will be very costly to get your towed car back!

Congratulations to Jaiyla Lewis who was named All-Region performer this weekend at the VHSL Theatre Regionals!

Any student still interested in being in Grease:  There will be an extra audition on Monday, February 27 after school in the Auditorium. See Dr. Neighbours for more information.

Nansemond River Gospel Choir will rehearse today today after school from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. You must be on time!

The Chess Club will meet in the library today from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. You must provide your own transportation home.

Sophomore Information Night is Thursday, February 23 at 6:00 pm in the Nansemond River High School Auditorium. Parents and students are encouraged to attend this important information session.

The AFJROTC is raising money for a poverty-stricken school in Guatemala. They have bathrooms, but no water to use them with. Teachers and students: please consider donating to this worthy cause. AFJROTC cadets will be accepting donations in the Cafeteria during all lunch shifts starting Monday, February 20 – Friday, February 24.  Our goal is $1500.  Please help these people get the water they deserve.

Need help filing your FAFSA? Please plan to attend the FAFSA workshop on Monday, February 20 in lab 163 during your lunch shift. Keep in mind that the next big deadline for most of the universities and colleges is March 1. Financial aid is first come, first serve so don’t wait! Applicants must bring a copy of their parent’s 2015 tax return. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Foster in Guidance.

Need help filling out your Paul D. Camp Community College or TCC Online Application? Please plan to attend the workshop on Monday, February 20 in lab 163 during your lunch shift. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Wolfe in Guidance.

There will be no weight lifting today for off-season football conditioning. Due to the dead period, we will resume on Monday, March 6.

Juniors and Seniors:  Do you want to win 2 free tickets to Prom? The Prom Committee is looking for logo designs for our Wish Upon a Star theme. The design will go on our invitations and favors. Please see Ms. McElroy or Ms. Jones for more information.

Seniors:  Cap & Gown pictures will be taken at Nansemond River on Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24. There is a $25 sitting fee, and keychains will be available – 2 for $20.00.  Sign up in the Main Office.

SOL Writing tutoring began Monday, February 13.  Tutoring will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays through March 6. Tutoring buses will be available.  Official testing dates are March 7 and March 8.

Attention all 9th and 10th grade students interested in attending the Pruden Center for Industry and Technology: The Pruden Center will be holding its annual Open House on Tuesday, February 21 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Bring the family, tour the facility and become familiar with the Pruden Center’s course offerings.

“Break a leg” to our VHSL Theatre Competition team as they compete for the 5A South Regional championship at Mills Godwin High School. Bring home a title!

Congratulations to seniors Jaiyla Lewis and Zach Doleman who were named alternates to the Virginia State Choir. And a special congratulations to Senior Lauryn McNeal for being named All-State Choir. This is the 10th year in a row that Nansemond River has made States. Great job Lauryn!
